New Year New ME

A shift has happened this new year. I feel committed, alive and filled with gratitude. I am back on the mat but this time it's different. This time I'm focused, in the moment and dedicating my practice to God. Yoga has saved me in the past and because of that I am forever grateful and in love with yoga. My time on the mat is a sacred prayer dedicated to the Divine and a moment to be in love with myself. Never underestimate personal time! It's freeing and healing.

I don't know how or why this shift happened but it did. Life is taking me on this journey because I am finally ready to begin. My soul and heart is open and ready to receive love and light. There's a saying that says, "When the student is ready the teacher will appear." This past fall I was invited to join a yoga teacher training on a scholarship!  A dream of mine that never materialized because I don't have the disposable income!

The universe listens and I was heard! I am so looking forward to begin this spiritual journey and I look forward to documenting it here!

I really am the mother of a two-year-old.

It just hit me we're at that stage the "terrible twos". It's definitely a game changer and a stage that makes any parent question their parenting skills.  Erik Erickson called it the autonomy stage, theorists label this process as seeking autonomy, separating, and individuating. I simply call it the headache stage.

I guess it could also be called the slap-in-the face stage because it's a toddler's way of saying fuck off I'm my own person and I have interests and preferences too! Totally understandable, but when it's 5 a.m. and a vivacious toddler is arguing that she wants her favorite cup (the one that is lost), or that she wants to wear her favorite pair of shoes which by the way don't fit her  it can get pretty frustrating.

All she wants is a taste of independence and I've learned to give it to her without letting her dominate us. You learn to pick and choose your battles.

It's a difficult period but as parents isn't it our goal to raise confident and independent adults? This is where the real parenting work begins . . .

Ely wandering off by herself. She had just said to me "no mama yo sola" (no mama I'll go by myself)

Cosmo a symbol of peace and modesty

There is a special flower in our garden that has yet to grow, the Cosmo, it reminds me of my Ixchel.

For my baby shower we planted Cosmo seeds in little clay pots and gave them away as party favors. We instructed our guests to plant their seedlings and to make a wish for our baby.  Unknown to them, these seedlings would grow into beautiful blooming wishes.

Meanwhile, in our garden we also planted some so that they'd be fully grown when she arrived. And just like that by the end of June they were fully grown waiting for Ixchel's arrival. They were just in time to salute their princess. Gracefully they danced in the wind reminding me how beautiful life is and how blessed we were to have our little miracle.

This year they have started to sprout all over the garden again. Like a weed, they have  managed to grow in between rocks. Already they are commanding attention just like Ixchel! You can't miss them, they are everywhere.

I realized that Ixchel will turn two next month! Where does time go? Time to start planing her birthday party . . .

Praise for the Tortilla

Your roots run deep,
hundreds of years deep.
You kept us strong,
growing like the mala yerba,
mighty and fearless.
You give us the strength to fight till the end,
y con muchas ganas.
Round like the sun you bring warmth to our bellies,
nourishment to our souls and a sense of pride.
Your brown clouds resemble my folks and your patterns my life.
Your wisdom has taught me what I know and helped me bloom into what I have become.

Yes, I am still alive =D Life is good. Busy but good.

Spring is here and it feels so good, I feel new, refreshed and just happy to be alive. I've picked up gardening and discovered my green thumb. It has made me way more appreciative of nature and it's beauty.

My little Ixchel is growing by leaps and bounds and sometimes I wish I could stop time to keep her little. She will be two next month and already the familia is asking for a sibling. Um yea right! I can barely keep up with the one I've got parenting is great but oh so challenging.

Music Friday- Kinky

You've heard them in car commercials I'm sure of it. They make you want to dance! I know I do.

Two years ago I saw them in concert at one of our local venues here in the East Coast. Luckily, los Latinos here are not very fond of Latin rock so it wasn't crowded. It was an awesome intimate concert and we were very lucky to meet them.

After the concert we waited for them to leave so that we could get our posters signed. They were so down-to-earth and grateful for their fans. I love them!

That night was somewhat of a blur because of the Redbull Vodkas I downed but I do know we were invited into their tour bus and had beers with them. We got autographed posters y todo!

P.S. They had Mexican Regional music blasting! It was awesome =)
They rocked!

Inside the tour bus!

This guy is amazing! He was so nice

Armpits Exposed

Calm down it's her armpit..

I delved into the natural deodorant market a couple of years ago, wanting to find a safer alternative to the conventional deodorant/antiperspirant.

Unfortunately, Dangerous chemicals typically found in antiperspirants are aluminum-based compounds, propylene glycol, steareths, parabens and triclosan. These chemicals, especially the aluminum have been linked to breast cancer, autism and brain tumors. The concern here is that using these products day after day could make you sick.

While the National Cancer Institute says aluminum-based products may cause cancer, they have no conclusive evidence to link the two. So my thing is if you can find safer alternatives, go for it! Why take the risk?

I tried quite a few different brands until I found the one that kept me stink free. It's going to take you to do some research to find the right one that works with your body.

How does your deodorant rate?

I'm using:
Kiss My Face Summer Liquid Rock Roll-On Deodorant, 3-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6)
I love it! I have no stink issues =)

*I was not compensated in anyway. Just spreading the word

Nicole Richie Hair

I've been thinking of getting my hair cut for a while now and I've made up my mind . . . my  hair has to go! I'm making my hair appointment for next week and I plan to cut a large chunk off. This mane is too hard to maintain!

I'm tired of it.

I want something new.

Hopefully after: I love Nicole's style!

Que crees? Si o No?

P.S. I've heard rumors saying that the new mom hair/cut is long hair. What do you think?

P.S.S. Notice the clearer skin? The meds are working!! I'm so happy =)
